Ember is made by Miranda Network SL, Tenerife, Spain, which is the data controller for the purposes of the GDPR. This policy explains exactly what happens to your data when you use the app.
The short version: Ember has no accounts, no sign-in and no backend. Every expense, budget and category you create is stored on your phone and nowhere else. We never see what you spend, because none of it is ever sent to us.
Nothing you enter leaves your device
This is the whole design of the app, so it comes first. Ember does not have a server that holds your data. There is no account to create, nothing to sync, and no copy of your finances anywhere except the phone in your hand.
The only network request Ember makes at all is the one that checks whether your subscription is active, and that request carries a random identifier and nothing else — no amounts, no categories, no notes.
What stays on your device
All of the following is stored locally, in app-private storage that only Ember can read. None of it is sent to us:
- Every expense and income entry, with its amount, date and note
- Your categories, budgets and spending limits
- Recurring entries and anything scheduled from them
- Your totals, trends and any chart built from them
- Your currency, and your settings, language and appearance
Deleting the app deletes all of it. We cannot recover it for you afterwards, because we never had a copy.
Ember never connects to your bank
Ember does not link to bank accounts, does not use open banking, and has no integration with any financial data provider. It will never ask you for a bank login, a card number, an IBAN or any payment credential, and any screen that did ask would not be ours.
Everything in Ember is there because you typed it in, which is why it can afford to keep no servers at all.
Your subscription
Purchases are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, which tells the app whether your subscription is active. We receive an anonymous subscriber identifier and a subscription status.
We never receive your name, your email address or your payment details. Apple does not share them with us, and there is no field in the app where you could give them to us instead.
What we never collect
Ember contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no attribution SDK and no crash-reporting SDK. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number or any account credentials — there is no account to hold them
- Any bank, card or payment information
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, location or health data
- Your advertising identifier (IDFA). Ember does not show ads
- Any record of which screens you open, which buttons you tap or how long you use the app
- Any amount, category or note you have entered, for any purpose whatsoever
Your phone's own backups
If you have iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup switched on, your device may include Ember's local data in it, in the same way it does for other apps. That backup is between you and Apple: it is covered by Apple's privacy policy, it is not readable by us, and it is not something Ember initiates or can see. You control it in your phone's own settings.
How long anything is kept
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your expenses, budgets and settings | On your phone, until you delete them or the app |
| Any of the above, on our side | Never held at all |
| Subscription status | For the life of the subscription, by RevenueCat |
| Support email | 24 months from the last message |
Who processes data on our behalf
| Processor | What it handles | Where |
|---|---|---|
| RevenueCat | Manages subscription status against an anonymous identifier | US |
| Apple | Processes payments and distributes the app | Ireland / US |
That is the complete list. Transfers outside the European Economic Area are covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses in our agreements with each provider.
Legal bases
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — running your subscription, which is the only processing we carry out.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — answering you if you write to support.
Nothing you record in Ember is processed under any legal basis, because it is not processed by us at all. It stays on your device.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict and port your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Here they are unusually easy to exercise:
- Access and portability — there is nothing for us to send you beyond a subscription record, because your financial data has never been in our hands.
- Erasure — deleting an entry removes it; deleting the app removes everything, immediately and with no copy left anywhere.
To ask about a subscription record, or to complain about how we handle your data, write to support@mirandanetwork.es. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) at aepd.es.
Children
Ember is not directed at children. We do not knowingly process personal data from anyone under 16, and because the app has no account system there is nothing for a child to register and nothing collected if one uses it.
Changes
If we change how the app handles your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the app before they take effect.
